Great boccia, coaching and fun with Boccia Epsom and Ewell!

Boccia Epsom and Ewell, known as The BEEs, was established in 2005 for young people aged 8 to 25 to play the paralympic sport of boccia (pronounced bot-cha).

The club now welcomes athletes of any age, some who play competitively at regional and national events and others who come for fun.  Members travel from all over the South East of England to play boccia in a social and fun club which has been awarded Boccia England Level 2 accreditation.

BEEs had four players competing in this year's Boccia Open, formerly know as DSE Open. Derek Sked, Tim Hayes, David Hill and Theodore Barnad-Edwards made the trip up to Sheffield this time round, two of them bringing home medals.

Derek Sked had a solid competition winning all four pool matches and progressing through the Knockout stages to the Final. He played a tough opponent in the form of Sam Oldknow and it was a tight and thrilling match, neither giving up a point without a fight. Sam edged the win but Derek played both technically and tactically well to claim his Silver Medal.

Tim Hayes had a tough route during the Knockout stages where he beat former GB player Dan Bentley in the Quarter-finals on a tiebreak. He missed out on the final after losing the Semis. He had a tough Third place match against James Clowes of England, was all square going into the last end, but Tim kept his nerve and nailed the jack ball earning him Bronze.

Theodore Barnard-Edwards played really well, winning 2 of his pool games, but narrowly missed out on getting to Knockout stages. David Hill reached the Quarter-finals where he lost to James Clowes by a point an end in a game that could have went either way.

Well done to you all, some quality Boccia from our BEEs players!
